- Try to copy adult’s babble, the sounds they make, actions and words.
- Understand words or phrases you most often use e.g. “bath-time” or “coat on”.
- Respond to their name and may even turn towards you when you call their name.
- Make noises to communicate with you.
What can I do to help my baby's speech and language development?
- Encourage your baby to copy actions when you are singing/ playing with them.
- Copy your baby’s babble and sounds and interpret what you think they are saying e.g. mama, ‘’yes, Mummy” and point to Mummy.
- Give your child the opportunity to socialise with other babies.
- Sing nursery rhymes and songs to your baby.
- Talk to your baby about what is happening.
- Keep your language simple
- Keep repeating important everyday words.
- Tell your baby the name of things as you look at them together.
